Star anise is a spice native to northeast Vietnam and southwest China and is closely related to regular anise, sharing the distinctive flavour similar to liquorice. It is so called for the unusual star-like shape of the husks. We’ve responsibly and ethically sourced our star anise from the very best growers. It has a powerful aroma and, when used in cooking, a very good taste.
It’s easy to recognize anise star pods: They usually look like an eight-pointed star. This fruit of a tree in magnolia family native to China and Vietnam produces tough-skinned, rust-colored fruits that are picked and dried before ripening.
