Description
Add texture flavour and body to your stews & casseroles etc with this fine mix.
This makes a superb Broth and soup base also.
This is a mixture of Pearl Barley, Green split Peas, Yellow split Peas, Red split Lentils and Marrowfat Peas.
Pre soak for 20 minutes in cold water before use unless using for stews etc (where the longer cooking time in stews etc compensates for pre soaking).
Basic wholesome recipe.
Ingredients
2 Litres water
500g Bacon Pieces (Diced Pork is also a good alternative if preferred).
3 medium sized Carrots
2 Onions
1 large Leek
6 medium sized Potatoes, or 3 baking sized ones.
200g The Spiceworks Soup & Broth Mix
Seasoning to taste (Garlic Pepper is good)
Serves 4-6 people.
Method…
Cut Bacon into small pieces.
Peel and chop vegetables-aim for minimum of 25cm cubes for Potatoes so that they do not dissolve in the cooking pot.
Put Bacon in large pan together with the water.
Add prepared vegetables.
Boil for 15-20 minutes.
Add the Broth Soup mix.
Cover pot and reduce heat.
Simmer for 1 hour, topping up the water if needed.
Sdd any seasoning 20 minutes before the end of cooking.
If required, add dumplings to the pot about 20 minutes before cooking is finished.Serve with crusty bread.
